FRUTA/MOAB ABIDE ADVENTURE 2018
DESCRIPTION: Do you hear it? Calm down for a minute and listen. Turn down the noise and put down the screen. Yep, you heard right, that’s the sound of gravel crunching, of heavy breathing as gears downshift. Keep listening, hear the wind now rushing and the blood thudding in your ear drums from a wicked fast descent. Then the laughter chimes in; deep, soul filling laughter of friends after a day of serious exploring and riding. Finally there is a song, a new one you’ve never heard before, sung by the stars in the Colorado mountain sky, one that connects to our soul.
Time to act on what you hear. Get out the calendar and block out April 18-24. Put your mountain bike in the shop for a tune up, new tires, and start shopping gear. Book your flight to Denver. Once we all hub up, we’ll make one last gear run to the REI flagship store and head into the mountains, spending our first night near Eagle/Vail. We’ll do an acclimation ride the next morning before heading to our campsite at the Saddlehorn Campground. For the next three days we will explore every trail we can between Fruita and Moab, ending the last day by soaking in the Glenwood Hot Springs and then sinking into a hotel bed. Each evening and at spots along the way, we’ll stop and listen some more; listen to each other, to the Spirit, to ourselves and to the wilderness. We’ll seek perspective that can only be found by getting away and getting into the wild, by pushing ourselves physically and resting totally. The perspective that comes from joining in community for a specific season and purpose.
Can you hear it? The wilderness is calling, will you go?
This trip is an exploratory trip. No professionals here, just a bunch of wanders from various backgrounds. Although there will be guided times and space for reflection and exploration, everyone is on the adventure together. Riders of all levels are welcome, although the terrain will be challenging and everyone should be in relatively good shape. Each rider will get to choose how much to take on each day, trials of various levels of intensity will be options. Coaching will also be available. We’ll be spending two nights in hotels/air bnbs and three nights camping. Spring weather in the mountains can brings snow storms and sunny days, so we’ll have to be ready for both.
